Brace seeks reelection as Lehigh County commissioner
Democrat Geoffrey Brace announced he is seeking reelection to the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners.
“While many parts of this great country have struggled to rebound from the Great Recession and a global pandemic, Lehigh County is leading the way in Pennsylvania,” said Brace. “There is always more work to be done in our quest for liberty and justice for all, but Lehigh County is showing how we can make a strong economy, strong democracy and safe environment.”
Brace, who has served as board chair since 2021, is running in District 4, which includes Allentown wards 4-8, 10-11 and 17 along with South Whitehall Township. He was first elected in 2013.
There are five seats open on the nine-member board, all of them representing districts. Republican Patrick Leonard announced plans to run in District 5.
Candidates must submit valid nomination papers before being placed on the ballot for the May 20 primary election. Circulation of nomination petitions begins on Feb. 18 and ends on March 11.
Brace said he has been a leader in making progress on renovations at Cedarbrook Senior Care & Rehabilitation, improving and launching new behavioral and mental health services, and building a stronger safety net in our community.
In addition, he said he’s been behind focusing new resources for violence prevention, homelessness services, reentry efforts, affordable housing strategies and development and easing the opioid epidemic.
“Over the past four years, Lehigh County has done more than it ever has to address national issues right here in our own backyard,” he said in his announcement.
He continued, “We are not done in Lehigh County. There are huge issues we face to continue taking care of seniors, investing in our local economy and housing, and making our communities safe.”
Brace works as a legislative assistant to state Rep. Mike Schlossberg, D-132. He has a bachelor’s degree in politics from Ursinus College and a master’s degree in political science and public policy from Lehigh University. He lives in Allentown with his wife and their son.
