U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent from Vermont, will bring his “Fighting Oligarchy: Where We Go From Here” tour to the Lehigh Valley on May 3.
Sanders will speak at Lehigh University’s Stabler Arena. Also appearing will be U.S. Rep. Chris Deluzio, a Democrat who represents Pennsylvania’s 17th District in southwestern Pennsylvania.
Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. followed by music by The Menzingers, a punk rock band from Scranton, at noon. The speaking portion starts at 1 p.m.
Persons interested in attending are asked to RSVP up here.
On his website, Sanders said he is “hitting the road to have real discussions across America on how we move forward to take on the Oligarchs and corporate interests who have so much power and influence in this country.”
Sanders has made stops in Montana, several places in California, Idaho, Arizona and Utah, drawing large crowds. U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat from New York, has accompanied him on some stops.
"We will not allow you to move this country into an oligarchy," Sanders said in comments directed at Trump at one stop, according to NPR . "We're not going to allow you and your friend Mr. Musk and the other billionaires to wreak havoc on the working families of this country. No, you're not going to destroy Social Security. You're not going to destroy Medicaid. You're not going to destroy the Veterans administration."
Sanders has also criticized Democrats, telling NPR in an interview, “In other words, what the Democratic Party has not done is paid attention to the working class, and they paid a political price for that.”
