Important dates for registering to vote, voting by mail
This year’s primary election will take place on April 23 – earlier than other years thanks to the presidential election. Here are important dates for voting in the primary, where only registered Democrats and Republicans can cast ballots.

Who is eligible to register to vote on on April 23:
Be a citizen of the United States for at least 30 days before April 23.
Be a resident of Pennsylvania and the election district in which you want to register and vote for at least 30 days before April 23.
Be at least 18 years of age on or before the day of April 23.

Vote by Mail
You must be registered to vote to request an application to do so. You can request a form now. Absentee voting, emergency absentee and military/overseas voting are also available.

Deadline to request an absentee or mail-in ballot: 5 p.m. April 16.
Deadline for receipt of absentee or mail-in ballots: 8 p.m. April 23.
How to request an absentee ballot for members of the military or U.S. citizens living overseas: Click here.
Deadline for receipt of military and overseas absentee ballots: 5 p.m. April 30. Must be submitted for delivery no later than 11:59 p.m. on April 22.
Under Pennsylvania law, voters must return their own ballots. However, voters with a disability can fill out a form and have someone else do it. Click here for the form.
Missed the deadline? If you have an emergency (unexpected illness or disability or last-minute absence from your municipality) you may still be able to get a ballot after the deadline. Information: emergency absentee ballot.
