Before the May 17 primary, Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin assigned detectives to monitor ballot drop-off box locations, including one in the Whitehall Township Municipal Building, to ensure people followed state law and didn’t drop off more than one ballot. Gary Day in a contest that pitted two incumbents against each other because of redistricting. Mackenzie, who was unopposed in the November election, was elected to represent the 187th District. The Lehigh County judicial election was not on the ballot in 2022, but the contest from November 2021 was decided in 2022 because of court challenges that ultimately led to counting 257 undated mail-in ballots on June 16. In the county Government Center, Democratic candidate Zachary Cohen, right, and his wife, Virginia, await the results. After the final count, Cohen defeated Republican David Ritter by five votes to be elected judge.
