Second gentleman Doug Emhoff to visit Allentown
Second gentleman Doug Emhoff is scheduled to stop in Allentown on Saturday on behalf of Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate Gov. Tim Walz.
Emhoff, husband of the Democratic presidential nominee, will meet with members of the Latino community for what is being called a “Latinos con Harris-Walz" event.
The time and location have not been released, according to a media advisory.
“Vice President Harris understands that Latinos are looking for a leader who will fight for them and the issues most important to their families, and the Harris-Walz campaign is investing heavily to reach and earn the support of this increasingly important bloc of voters in Pennsylvania," the advisory said.
The Lehigh Valley is a swing district in a swing state. Latinos, a key constituency, comprise more than half of Allentown’s population.
First lady Jill Biden made a stop in Allentown in early July, about three weeks before her husband stepped down as a presidential candidate and endorsed Harris.
Her visit was part of the “CHC on the Road” tour organized by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus to talk about education and hear the concerns of the Latino community. Jill Biden made a similar visit to Allentown in 2021 when polls showed Latino support for Biden was sagging.
President Joe Biden visited Emmaus and Allentown in January while former President Donald Trump, Harris’ Republican opponent, stopped in North Whitehall in April.
Emhoff is no stranger to the Lehigh Valley.
He joined Education Secretary Miguel Cardona in holding a roundtable at the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley in September 2022 to hear about wrap-around support for local children and their families.
According to media reports, Emhoff was in the Lehigh Valley in May 2021 as part of the Biden administration’s “Getting America Back on Track” tour. Just before the November 2020 presidential election, he stopped in Allentown to promote the Biden-Harris ticket.
